San Vittore Square, Plague Column and Ellipse
It is the oldest square in the city, located at the intersection of the "cardo" and "decumanus," where the ancient small church dedicated to St. Victor Martyr stood as early as the 4th century and where the market has been held since ancient times.
In the same square is also located the Cross of the Plague. This was originally placed at the intersection of the cardo and decumanus, but was moved next to the church in 1927. In reassembling the cross and raising it up, a rusty shrine was found in which there was a plain leaflet accompanied by 11 Relics enclosed in paper packets, sealed with an Easter candle, as authentic.
In 1998 the cross was repositioned in its original place where it still stands today.
In Piazza San Vittore we find the urban arrangement designed by the studio CZA - Cino Zucchi Architetti, which, with the inclusion of elliptical-shaped seats made of cement grit, redefines the city's central spatial envelope.
Furniture elements capable of becoming a reference for inhabitants and visitors.
Their shape, size and position in the existing space are carefully studied in relation to the elements of the context.
