New Leonardo da Vinci Galleries
The world's largest permanent exhibition dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci the humanist and engineer opens in Milan.
Discover the world's largest permanent exhibition dedicated to Leonardo the engineer, humanist and investigator of nature.
A spectacular set design takes you on a journey that, starting in 15th-century Florence, traces Leonardo's education and the contribution of Tuscan engineers to his stay in the Milan of the Sforzas. A journey through the art of war, labor and production, flight, waterways and architecture that concludes with a look at Leonardo's influence on Lombard Renaissance painting and an immersive installation dedicated to the drawings of his final years.
More than 1,300 square meters and 170 historical models, artworks, ancient volumes and installations bring to life the narrative through the evolution of Leonardo's thought in an immersive experience in the emotional, intellectual and physical dimensions.
The New Galleries renew the historic layout with which the Museum opened to the public in 1953 and represent a unique cultural resource to inspire new generations, the world of research, and enthusiasts of all ages.
The figure of Leonardo is investigated within its historical context by relating his
work as an engineer and humanist with the history of Renaissance science, art, technology and thought. The view is consistent with the most recent studies of Leonardo's historiography, emphasizing his curiosity and ability to observe and interpret nature along with attention to the work of his contemporaries with whom he is in continuous dialogue.
Universal meanings such as the desire to know, the ability to observe, and cross-cultural thinking are a valuable legacy of Leonardo's working method to contemporary society.
