The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in San Siro is the largest stadium in Italy and the fourth in Europe.
The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium hosts the matches of the city's two football teams, AC Milan and Inter Milan. It is best known as San Siro, named after the district in which it is located. In 1980 it was dedicated to Giuseppe Meazza, the historic Inter player and World Champion who played for the Italian national football team in 1934 and 1938.
Designed exclusively as a football facility, the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium consists of a double tier of stands, served by superimposed access ramps that completely surround the stadium, creating its unmistakable character.
The roof that completely covers the stands was built with a metal lattice structure that supports a covering consisting of vaults made with sheets of transparent synthetic material.
The Museum of Inter and Milan, located underneath the south curve, offers guided tours of the stadium.
Considered one of the quintessential symbols of the city of Milan, San Siro Stadium has earned the nickname La Scala of Football, for the prestige and importance of the events that are hosted here, not all of which are related to sports. In addition to hosting the home matches of AC Milan and Inter Milan, San Siro has been, since the seventies, a venue for major concerts, welcoming the most important Italian and international artists to its stage.
