The role of Margaret of Savoy. Queen consort despite everything
Elena Riva (Documentation Center for Royal Residences and Ordinary of Modern History at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan) recounts the story that led Margaret of Savoy to the throne alongside Umberto I, after the demise of the dynastic project linked to Matilda of Habsburg-Teschen, and her ability to transform an unexpected condition into a central role. At a still young stage of the unitary state, Margaret became a symbol of the rising monarchy, embodying royalty, prestige and national identity.
Promoted by the Documentation Centre Royal Lombard Residences under the programme “L’8 FOR MY RIGHTS” of the Department of Equal Opportunities.
