The Role of Margaret of Savoy. Queen consort in spite of everything
Elena Riva (Centro documentazione Residenze Reali and Professor of Modern History at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan) recounts the event that brought Margaret of Savoy to the throne next to Umberto I, after the demise of the dynastic project linked to Matilda of Habsburg-Teschen, and her ability to transform an unforeseen condition into a central role. Indeed, at a still young stage of the unified state, Margaret became a symbol of the rising monarchy, embodying royalty, prestige and national identity.
