Village of ossuccio
On the shores of Lake Como, where its pastel houses are reflected on the water, is known for its UNESCO heritage: the Sacro Monte
Ossuccio, a Pre-Roman town on Lake Como, is home of the famous bell tower of the church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Ospedaletto.
An ornate belfry, made with bricks, was built on top of an existing Romanesque belfry. The original bell tower ended above the current mullioned window.
Above Ossuccio, on the "Sacred Mount", lies theSanctuary of the Virgin of Succour (a 16th century structure to which various changes were made up to the18th century)that houses a venerated statue of the Virgin.
It can be reached from a lane with 14 chapels from the 18th century that hold plaster statues depicting the Misteri del Rosario, or Mysteries of the Rosary.
The oratory of San Giacomo(the small, Romanesque, single-apse church (11th-12th century), restored by the architect Pietro Lingeri) preserves some the area's oldest frescoes (between the 12th and 15th centuries) .
Comacina Island is the old island in the middle of the lake which can be reached by boat.
