Lenno
The village in Tremezzina overlooking the Gulf of Venus
Lenno, along with the villages of Tremezzo, Mezzegra, and Ossuccio, is part of the municipality of Tremezzina since 2014 and the municipality of Tremezzina has its seat in the heart of this village.
The village of Lenno is itself the union of 11 small hamlets and is located on the western shore of Lake Como. Lenno nestles along the slopes of Monte di Tremezzo, in a deep and picturesque natural inlet that extends between the Lavedo promontory and the Portezza point. The area has been known for its beauty in older times and got its name of "Gulf of Venus" by Cardinal Durini in the 18th century.
The lakefront, with its elegant villas, offers beautiful panoramic views, from Punta del Balbianello to the Bellagio promontory on the opposite shore of the lake, and is perfect for a stroll or a relaxing break in one of the lakeside cafes or restaurants.
Not far from the lake is a small square featuring the 11th-century Church of Santo Stefano and the octagonal Baptistery of San Giovanni.
From the lakeside, several walks and trails depart, making their way along side streets and old mule tracks. They connect the various old historic centres of Villa, Campo, Masnate, and Molgisio and then they go further up along paths surrounded by olive trees to the Acquafredda Abbey or the Sacro Monte di Ossuccio, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Greenway del lago di Como also passes through Lenno. This easy scenic route connects Colonno to Griante, following sections of the Antica Strada Regina and Lenno is right at its centre.
Every Tuesday, a lively market takes place along the lakeside (mornings only).
