Infopoint Tremezzina
Tremezzina possesses its own distinct profile and identity from a very long time: a well recognizable geographical, environmental, and landscape profile, and even a peculiar climate profile. In addition, the territory has a historical and cultural identity, a strong homogeneity of material culture, economic and social structure, and also an ancient and shared tourist vocation, developed with the practice of the Grand Tour and evidenced by the presence of stately villas and international hotels.
In fact, between the 18th and 19th centuries, the entire Lario area was one of the obligatory stops on the long journey through Italy, considered an indispensable complement to a refined education. The name Tremezzina derives from the fishing village once called "Tramezzo" or "Framezzo," which developed between the ancient Roman Via Regina (a Roman military route, later known as Strada Regina) and the slopes of Monte Crocione. The entire coast is of great historical and scenic importance, thanks to the succession of settlements that have occupied the shoreline since ancient times with permanent settlements.
Since February 4, 2014, after a long experience of joint management, Tremezzina has also become an autonomous local authority, thanks to the creation of a new Municipality, established with merging of the four pre-existing Municipalities of Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra and Tremezzo.
The four villages that make up the Municipality of Tremezzina are characterized by a long history and numerous historical, artistic, scenic, and cultural resources that have contributed to making this shore of Lake Como one of the most famous and visited by both Italian and international tourists.
