Tremezzo
A village-garden on Lake Como: be enchanted by the beauty of the villas and parks, with their colours and perfumes
Tremezzo together with the villages of Ossuccio, Lenno and Mezzegra, is part of the municipality of Tremezzina since 2014.
You'll be dazzled by the beauty of the lush gardens and 18th-century residences: the famous Villa Carlotta, stands surely out, being one of the most beautiful on Lake Como, with masterpieces by Canova and Hayez and a botanical garden with plants from every corner of the world that in springtime release their enchanting perfumes and colours. Here you can relax in front of the wonders of human genius and nature.
Another villa worth a visit is Villa Mainona, seat of the Lake Como Landscape Museum offering a splendid view on the lake and do not forget to take a stroll in the public park Teresio Olivelli just in front.
The palaces, the villas, the spinning mills, the views and the smell of the lake: in the air there is a sweet and Mediterranean feeling and the climate makes the olive trees grow on the terraces as well as the vines and the lemons.
In the eighteenth century, with the arrival of the rich European bourgeoisie, the "Italian-Style" gardens were full of exotic plants: alongside the traditional olive trees appeared palm trees and azaleas, hydrangeas and camellias coming from distant lands. This made the lakefront a popular tourist destination that also enchanted Stendhal.
Tremezzo is the union of 10 small hamlets, among which 4 stand out: one is on the lake (Bolvedro) and the others uphill (Rogaro, Volesio and Balogno). These 4 hamlets are all well preserved with the original cobblestones and beautiful facades of stately homes. Here you can search for quiet, away from the frenzy of the Lakefront and admire the simple beauty of the past while having a magnificent view of the lake as, for example, from Rogaro.
In short, Tremezzo, as the whole Tremezzina, is a fantastic fusion of green, water and stone. With the changing seasons the tones, light, colours of the water and mountains change and you can witness the metamorphoses of nature in parks and gardens: every season is a perfect time to visit! Why not trying to arrive from the lake by boat!
