Valgerola Ecomuseum
Ecomuseum is the union of past, present and future of community history
The history of Valgerola has always been distinguished by its people: proud of their traditions, tied to their land and origins, united in identity, with a great sense of community and belonging.
Emigrations to places near or far, transhumance in the seasons, daily displacement, have characterized the life of the inhabitants, forging their simple and hospitable character.
The mountain territory, in the Orobie Valtellinesi Park, is characterized by the presence of inhabited settlements at high altitudes, which arose over the centuries in relation to traditional agricultural activities, livestock breeding and use of forests and mines.
TheEcomuseum of Valgerola represents an element of union between past and future, identity and social development, to rediscover and enhance local history, traditions and culture, through the signs of time (geological formations, fossil finds), the natural landscape (meadows, pastures, forests, lakes, flora and fauna), the signs of man and faith (buildings and factories, churches, customs, habits..), typical products (Bitto and Mascherpa), the Valgerola Goat.
