August and the Shooting Stars at Ca' del Monte Observatory

Between 10 and 13 August 2026, the summer sky will be illuminated by the Perseid meteor shower, also known as the Shooting Stars of San Lorenzo, one of the most iconic astronomical events of the season. It is the perfect time to seek out romantic locations, look up at the night sky and watch for shooting stars while waiting for the perfect moment to make a wish.

In the large open-air amphitheatre in front of the Observatory, visitors will have the opportunity to admire the Perseids in comfort. Guests are encouraged to bring cushions and blankets and to wear suitable clothing for outdoor activities, such as a sweatshirt or a windproof jacket.

Surrounded by the unspoilt natural landscape of the Oltrepò Pavese, the evening will combine mythological tales, fascinating astronomical facts and guided observations of the night sky, celebrating the magical August nights beneath the stars of the Milky Way.

During the event, participants will observe some of the most remarkable objects visible in the summer sky through the Observatory's telescopes and enjoy a virtual journey through selected planets of the Solar System in the new Digistar digital planetarium.

Sunset Solar Eclipse – Special Event

Join us for a special event to experience one of the year's most fascinating astronomical phenomena: a partial solar eclipse, visible from Italy until sunset.

The evening will begin with an introductory talk exploring how solar eclipses occur, why each eclipse is unique, and what these extraordinary events reveal about the delicate alignment between the Sun, Earth and Moon.

After the presentation, participants will observe the eclipse safely through the Observatory's telescopes, following its progress until the Sun disappears below the horizon.

This is a rare opportunity to witness the sky during an exceptional celestial event and to share the unforgettable experience of a sunset made even more spectacular by the meeting of the Sun and the Moon.

Complimentary eclipse glasses will be provided to all participants.
