Bondone Valley
The Bondone Valley, crossed by the stream of the same name, is one of the lesser-known valleys in the Orobie Valtellinesi Park but one that hides corners of extreme beauty.
Leaving the car in the quaint village of Bondone (1,200 m), where the church dedicated to the Assumption is immediately visible, the road climbs for the first stretch through spruce and larch forests until it reaches the huts of Monte Basso (1,570 m). Continuing on a steeper path to the Cantarena hut (2070 m), the valley opens up and the rugged landscape highlights the shaping action of the rocks by the glaciers. In this area we can observe several small lakes among which the most important is Cantarena or Selù lake at an altitude of 2260 m.
Val Caronella and Val Bondone are Site of Community Importance, Natura 2000 Network.
