Church of Santa Maria del Carmine

The Church of Santa Maria del Carmine is one of the most important Catholic places of worship in Pavia and a remarkable example of Lombard Gothic architecture.

It has a Latin cross floor plan with a square chancel and a longitudinal body divided into three naves. The perimeter of the church, with the addition of side chapels, takes on a rectangular shape, with the only exceptions being the slight projection of the presbytery and the buttresses positioned along the walls separating the chapels. Rising adjacent to the chancel is the tall bell tower, which has a square base.

The monastery is structured around two courtyards, one of which, the western cloister, features a portico on all four sides and adjoins the right nave of the church.
