Basilica of San Teodoro

Just a few steps from the Basilica dedicated to the Archangel we find the final destination of our journey into the past: the Basilica of San Teodoro. 

The current church was built on existing foundations dating back to the middle of the 8th century, linked to the activities of the bishop Teodoro.

History describes this legendary figure as a defender of the Longobard city in the face of Charlemagne's army: in fact, however, Teodoro was the bishop of Pavia who took an interest in the foundation of the first church, dedicated to Sant'Agnese. 

For this reason, his remains were later enclosed in the basilica that took his name in honour of his actions.     

The history of these places is rooted in a distant past that reverberates with the greatness and importance of a people who made the history of Pavia a unique and inimitable story.
