Fort Venini
In Valdisotto one of the most important testimonies of the Great War in Valtellina
Forte Venini or Forte di Oga is one of the most striking relics of the 15/18 war, when the front was only a few kilometers away on the Stelvio glaciers.
Located in the municipality of Valdisotto, above the village of Oga, at an altitude of 1750 m, it was built between 1909 and 1912 in a strategic position on the hill known as Dossaccio.
From here it overlooked a vast area: from the Foscagno Pass to the Torri di Fraele, from the Stelvio to the Valfurva.
Inside, it was divided into several rooms, in those located further south were provided for the packing of bullets, and on the upper floors were the living quarters.
Outside, two retractable turrets housed the machine guns and cannons, with a range of thirteen kilometers.
In the basements were capacious water tanks that provided a reserve in case of long sieges.
Today the fort, after being disarmed and cleaned, is partly used as a Great War museum open to visitors.
