Treasures of the Ca' Granda
Polyclinic masterpieces on display
There are great works of art in Milan that almost no one has seen. A treasure hidden from the public because it is delicate, the result of a patient collection continued over the centuries and kept in an underground vault.
Now these masterpieces can return to the light thanks to a completely free museum tour that will give back to the city the history of an institution and all the benefactors who made it great.
It officially opens "The Treasures of the Ca' Granda," an exhibition itinerary wanted by the Fondazione Ca' Granda Policlinico to make its artistic wonders known, but also to celebrate the charity that has illuminated Milan since 1459 with its Festa del Perdono.
Among the great masterpieces on display will be the unique portrait commissioned by Giovanni Segantini and the first two paintings of benefactors just made by young artists from the Brera Academy.
"With the Festa del Perdono, we have been celebrating the foundation of our hospital for centuries," explains Marco Giachetti, president of Policlinico di Milano. "That of the Treasures of the Ca' Granda is the right way to honor this tradition.
"The opening of this museum itinerary," comments Ezio Belleri, general director of the Policlinico di Milano, "is a unique opportunity to celebrate the historic alliance between the generosity of those who donate and the care for the most fragile that has characterized our Hospital since its foundation. It is also a way to confirm the international role that the Polyclinic has in the field of medicine and research.
Next to the paintings, in fact, are exhibited collections of medical and scientific instruments from the 1800s to the present day, with which our experts have set the school in the world. Instruments that have saved lives, people, families: this is also a way to say thank you to all those who support us."
