Historic train from Milan to Mortara for the Goose Salami Festival
On Sunday, 27 September 2026, the Lomellina Express connects Milan and Mortara with a journey aboard a historic train, offering visitors the chance to reach the Lomellina area for the Goose Salami Festival and Palio di Mortara.
The train departs from Milano Centrale, with stops at Milano Rogoredo and Pavia, before arriving in Mortara, where passengers can enjoy a day dedicated to Mortara PGI Goose Salami, local food products and the city's historical traditions.
Lomellina Express: a historic train journey to Mortara
The Lomellina Express runs with a diesel locomotive, Centoporte carriages from the 1930s, Corbellini carriages from the 1950s and a luggage van. The journey to Mortara is therefore part of the experience, allowing visitors to travel aboard historic railway rolling stock while discovering the Lomellina area.
Staff from the Associazione Ferrovie Turistiche Italiane will be on board to assist passengers.
Bicycles can also be carried free of charge in the dedicated luggage van, allowing visitors to continue their journey from Mortara by bike and explore the surrounding area.

On Sunday, 27 September 2026, the outbound journey includes the following stops:
- Milano Centrale – departure at 9:30 am
- Milano Rogoredo – arrival 9:39 am, departure 9:40 am
- Pavia – arrival 10:08 am, departure 10:09 am
- Mortara – arrival 10:47 am
The return journey departs from Mortara at 5:30 pm, arriving in Pavia at 6:18 pm, Milano Rogoredo at 6:43 pm and Milano Centrale at 6:55 pm.

How much does the Lomellina Express cost?
The ticket for a single journey between Milano Centrale and Mortara costs €9.10 for adults.
Children aged 0 to under 14 travel free, with a seat reservation required.
Tickets are available through Trenitalia sales channels, including ticket offices, self-service machines and authorised travel agencies. Ticket sales began on 5 September 2026.
Goose Salami Festival and Palio di Mortara
The Lomellina Express arrives in Mortara on the main day of the Goose Salami Festival, which takes place from 25 to 27 September 2026.
The main food speciality is Mortara PGI Goose Salami, one of the best-known traditional products of the Lomellina area. During the festival, visitors can taste it alongside other local specialities.
The programme on 27 September also includes events linked to the history and traditions of Mortara, including a Renaissance historical parade and the Palio between the city's districts.
