The return of Estorre
The participatory museum
At the Museum and Treasure of the Cathedral, from July 15 until September 21, all visitors residing in Monza, by showing their identity card, will be entitled to a special discount on the Museum entrance ticket : they will be able to enter at the special price of €2.00!
Estorre Visconti, illegitimate son of Bernabò, approached Monza during his attempts to seize power in Milan after the death of his cousin Gian Galeazzo in 1402.
Estorre died in 1413 after a serious wound suffered during the siege of Monza castle by Filippo Maria Visconti's troops.
His body was found mummified in 1698 inside the cathedral.
The conditions of the burial and exsanguination favored its preservation; he was identified thanks to the stocco buried with him.
During the tour all visitors are invited to fill out a short questionnaire dedicated to Estorre Visconti, a key moment of the participatory project proposed by the Museum and Treasure of Monza Cathedral.
Through this initiative, the Museum wishes to enhance not only the opinions of visitors at such a significant moment of change, marked by the imminent return of the "mummy," but also to collect personal memories and testimonies.
