Travels and travelers in the works of civic collections
The theme of travel, discovery and exploration spans millennia and civilizations, becoming an occasion for comparison and dialogue: through works from the civic collections, many exhibited for the first time, the Civic Museums offer an exhibition that takes the visitor through the thousand facets of travel, from antiquity to nineteenth-century explorers in Africa, from the wonders of the Far East to the secrets of Pharaonic Egypt to the fascination of Middle Eastern landscapes and the "chinoiserie" all the rage in the nineteenth century.
