Mus. Museum of Livigno and Trepalle
Discovering Livigno's past and the dynamics that led it to its present day
Opened in 2015, the museum aims to help understand Livigno's past and the dynamics that led to its present.
The ' building that houses the museum dates back to the late 1700s and has some typical elements of traditional Livigno houses, such as the sc'tua, the kitchen with the cendré (hearth) and the milk processing room, but also special features, such as the considerable size (it is spread over no less than four floors) and the massive use of stone as opposed to traditional wood.
The museum displays tools and working implements that tell the story of this valley's farming roots; faithful reconstructions of the original rooms allow visitors to breathe in the daily life of the past such as the art of recycling, milk and herb processing, religious devotion and folk beliefs.
On the second floor, the contrast between tradition and modernity is evident.
Aspects of life in the past, such as the decisive flavors of cooking and wool processing, are recounted, as well as the dynamics that have led to the present: the tourist boom and the extradogan zone.
The attic, on the other hand, is set up with heterogeneous objects that vary over time according to museum needs.
The interior wooden staircase reconstructs a historical journey: each riser of the steps presents a date and an episode fundamental to the history of these valleys, further food for thought.
