Eventoday, strolling through the streets of the old town, one can breathe in the air of the ancient village, where one can admire remarkable palaces and striking views, surrounded by the green Lombard countryside.
The Castello Visconteo, a fortress of delight for the dukes of Milan who easily reached it along the Naviglio Grande, is the main monument from which to start a visit. The Basilica of Santa Maria Nuova with its Renaissance quadriportico is the city's most important church and is a Jubilee church in 2025. Theformer Convento dell'Annunciata, a jewel of Franciscan architecture, preserves in the church a beautiful cycle of frescoes by Moietta, a 16th-century Leonardesque painter. Overlooking the Naviglio Grande stands Palazzo Cittadini Stampa, in the hamlet of Castelletto, recently restored to its former glory as a 17th-century noble residence. There is so much more to discover, including its excellent food and wine, to be enjoyed in all seasons of the year, especially during events. Not to be missed are the historic Agricultural Fair in October and the AbbiateGusto food and wine festival in November.
The Infopoint is located inside the Castello Visconteo, the beating heart of the city's events and cultural activities. Here you can find all the information you need for your stay, such as guides, maps, monument cards, events and reviews also from neighboring municipalities. All materials are available in the first office on the right up the entrance ramp and at the R. Brambilla Civic Library, which is located at the end of the castle's inner courtyard.
The Castello Visconteo can always be visited free of charge during opening hours.
