Mill of Mora Bassa

The Ecomuseum of the Roggia Mora - Mora Bassa Mill is located in Vigevano at the 15th-century mill, which is equipped with two large waterwheels. The hydraulic building, owned by the Irrigation Association of East Sesia in Novara, was restored and transformed into a museum in the year 2000, thanks to a contribution from the Lombardy Region and the Municipality of Vigevano. This building, commissioned by Ludovico il Moro, features architectural elements that reflect the immense skills and knowledge of Leonardo da Vinci, who was present at the Sforza court during those years.

The ancient halls of Mora Bassa house an educational exhibition on the territorial transformations brought about by the irrigation network. The exhibition, consisting of forty large panels, is titled "Water Shapes the Landscape."

Around the structure, powered by the waters of the ancient Roggia Mora, there are intriguing historical and legendary references to the figure of Leonardo da Vinci. In this context, the Ecomuseum hosts an important permanent exhibition of working wooden models of Leonardo's machines, curated by the cultural association "La Città Ideale," which manages visits and organizes special educational workshops.
