Castle Infopoint - Vigevano
The Vigevano Castle Infopoint is located inside the imposing Visconteo-Sforza Castle, an authentic architectural masterpiece located in the beating heart of the city of Vigevano.
The Castle, which dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries, is one of the largest fortified complexes in Europe, with an area exceeding 70,000 square meters. With its walls, the Tower designed by Bramante and and the fascinating courtyards, the Castle represents a significant example of medieval and Renaissance architecture, which tells the story of the historical events of Vigevano and the entire Lombard region.
Over the centuries, the Castle has hosted numerous members of the powerful Visconti and Sforza dynasties. Under the rule of these illustrious dynasties, the Castle was transformed into a stately residence, enriched with a series of buildings used for residential and administrative purposes. Today, the building is an important symbol of the city's history and culture, continuing to be a landmark for historical memory and art.
Within this extraordinary complex, the Vigevano Castle Infopoint guides visitors to discover the city and is the ideal reference point for those who wish to immerse themselves in its history and attractions. In fact, the Tourist Office offers ticketing services for the museum areas of the complex, namely the Luigi Barni Civic Museums, divided into the International Footwear Museum and the Civic Art Gallery, the Leonardiana Museum and the Bramante Tower, one of the symbols of Vigevano.
Alongside the Castle, the city of Vigevano is home to other extraordinary sights, such as the renowned Piazza Ducale, one of the most fascinating examples of a Renaissance square in Italy, designed by Donato Bramante (seeking the symmetry of Leonardo da Vinci's Ideal City), which, with its perfect measurements and elegant porticoes, is a gathering place for citizens and tourists, as well as a venue for cultural events and happenings.
