A natural history to be discovered
In the immediate hinterland south of Lake Garda, along the Mincio River, Ponti sul Mincio is the first Mantuan municipality within the Park named after the river that runs through it.
The territory is made up of the Morenic Hills, modest reliefs to be discovered by pleasant bike rides, perhaps by pedaling on the Ciclabile that connects Mantua to Peschiera or the Garda Morenic Cycle Route.
The Scaliger castle, built between 1260 and 1276, polygonal and elongated in shape and enclosed within five towers, dominates the historic center, within which we find the War Memorial, designed by engineer Giancarlo Maroni (the same as the Vittoriale in Gardone Riviera), the church of Sant'Antonio Abate and, in nearby Via Roma, the ancient public washhouse, recently restored and still used by the women of the village who continue to wash their laundry in this corner of local history to experience this wonderful tradition every day.
Fort Ardietti erected in the years 1856/1861 following the siege of Peschiera del Garda in 1848 and included in the territorial defense system of the Austrian Quadrilateral.
The Mincio Park, one of the first parks created in Lombardy, to be discovered by bicycle or on foot by following the Mantova-Peschiera bicycle path, or through the nature excursions proposed periodically or with visits and tours of the vineyards of the Morainic Hills and the local wineries.
