Days of castles, palaces and medieval villages
There is an area in theheart of the Lombardy plain that stands out for a peculiarity straddling history, traditions, art and architecture: in every center, whether small village or large town, there is evidence of a turbulent and compelling past.
Castles, fortresses, watchtowers, walls and moats have come down to us to tell us their story, which unfolds among great commanders, battlefields, places of culture and legends, intrigues and curious anecdotes. All this should not be surprising: for centuries the territories we are talking about have been lands of passage and connection between different political, cultural and commercial areas.
The construction of such a vast and widespread system of fortifications became necessary for the defense of the borders, the object of contention first between the municipality of Bergamo and the municipalities of Cremona, Brescia and Milan; later between the Duchy of Milan and the Republic of Venice, around what went down in history as the "Fosso Bergamasco" a border that joined the Adda, Serio and Oglio rivers that still today draw horizons of singular beauty, among green parks, countryside, fountains and bodies of water.
A plunge into the Middle Ages in a landscape that will captivate not only lovers of history and architecture, but also those who wish to relax immersed in rustic settings, among typical productions and lots of nature.
Here you can find all the information you need to independently organize your itinerary, choosing the realities to visit, participating in the events offered and booking one or more visits throughout the day.
Turns back to thePassport of Medieval Castles, Palaces and Villages, available at each participating location, on which you can collect the stages of a journey that has been promoting the historical and architectural heritage of the mid-Lombard plain for over ten years.
From this year, the new canvas shopping bags dedicated to the event will also be available.
In the 2026 edition, there will be 23 realities to visit scattered among the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia, Cremona and Milan.
