Feast of St. Martin
“On St. Martin’s Day, every grape must turns into wine”
This important tradition, also celebrated in a famous poem by Giosuè Carducci titled San Martino, is being commemorated and carried on by the Val San Martino Winery in Pontida together with the Pro Loco Pontida, which—under the patronage of the City of Pontida, the Val San Martino Ecomuseum, the Lario Orientale and Valle San Martino Mountain Community, has organized the fifth edition of the San Martino Festival on Sunday, November 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Val San Martino Winery, located at Via Bergamo 1195 in Pontida, Bergamo. The event has become part of the cultural festival “L’Estate di San Martino,” now in its 35th edition, promoted by the Val San Martino Ecomuseum. The event will take place rain or shine under the Cantina’s covered areas.
There will be stalls featuring local products, including cheeses, cured meats, vegetables, flour, honey, and jams. There will also be woodworkers, hobbyists, sweets, roasted chestnuts, games for children, salamelle (small sausages), polenta, fritters, cotton candy, and, of course, fine wine.
The Anchio Restaurant, located on the grounds of the Val San Martino Winery, offers the “Festa di San Martino” menu: Reservations are required; please call 035/641000 to request the “Festa di San Martino” menu.
Throughout the day, the Pontida Pro Loco will liven up the festivities with a theatrical performance.

At 12:15 p.m., Don Antonio will bless the vats filled with wine.
