The Pian di Spagna Nature Reserve
...one of the most important nature reserves in Italy.
The Pian di Spagna and Lago di Mezzola nature reserve is a protected natural area located in the municipalities of Sorico, Gera Lario, Dubino, Novate Mezzola and Verceia, in the provinces of Como and Sondrio.
The reserve includes Lake Mezzola and the area between it and Lake Como is called Pian di Spagna.
It is also a very beautiful area from a landscape point of view, one of the most important nature reserves in Italy with lakes and rivers that create a unique ecosystem in which there is a rich variety of flora and fauna, typical of wetland and lake environments.
This flat area covers an area of 1,600 meters and has been recognized as a Site of Community Importance (Sic) and is part of the European Ecological Network "Natura 2000."
Nearby you can visit the Fuentes Fort and Fort Montecchio Nord in Colico and the Romanesque temple of San Fedelino in Sorico , and they represent two architectural works that are definitely worth a visit.
From here it is possible to take many itineraries and walks immersed in nature and history and to take advantage of the observation points located at different points in the reserve.
Especially suitable for families with children.
The reserve offers the possibility of customized routes, guided tours and fun-educational activities for schools.
