Infopoint Sondalo
Located at 940 meters above sea level, Sondalo is renowned as a health resort and health resort due to its healthy air, dry climate, diverse natural landscape, and special geographical location at an optimal altitude and sheltered from winds.
For the tourist, staying in Sondalo means rest, serenity, and health, with the possibility of immersing oneself in nature by taking advantage of an extensive network of trails
Of great appeal, for those who love unspoiled nature, is the Rezzalo Valley, a true outdoor nature museum with its heritage of flora and fauna and significant examples of rural architecture. For mineralogy enthusiasts, the Sondalo area, along more challenging itineraries, offers the chance to explore one of the richest mineralogical zones in Valtellina. Sondalo also offers a modern Multipurpose Center, equipped with a gymnasium, tennis and soccer fields, and a brand new soccer field. In the winter season the center hosts a modern ice-skating rink.
Sondalo's more recent history is marked by the construction of an imposing health facility that dominates the town from above.
In the 1930s work began in Sondalo on the construction of a Sanatorium Village for the treatment of tuberculosis. Work on the construction of the large complex began in 1932. It is, for the times, a cyclopean work. Nine inpatient pavilions, including eight "type pavilions" all alike, and one surgical pavilion are built at considerable distances from each other. These are imposing nine-story buildings with the solemn and monumental architecture of the Fascist era, connected by a wide road network paved with porphyry. The whole is surrounded by a vast wooded area of thirty-four hectares with firs, larches, deodar cedars, thuias, hibiscus, elms, and limes.
Nature trails among the typical, picturesque huts allow total immersion in the local flora and fauna.
Starting from Sondalo, it is possible to make some interesting excursions to the surrounding mountain pastures. The routes marked here are on mountain roads (which also have steep climbs) and are of medium to low difficulty.
