A JOURNEY THROUGH THE HISTORY OF THE NUN OF MONZA

The visiting itinerary of the Civic Museums is enriched with a new area dedicated to the figure of the Monaca di Monza: thanks to a video, Alessandro Manzoni recounts his encounter with Marianna de Leyva and the consequent birth of one of the most famous characters in The Betrothed.

Thanks to the innovative use of artificial intelligence and video animations, accessible through smartphones, the famous portrait of the Monaca di Monza created by Giuseppe Molteni comes to life. Virginia returns to relive the most significant moments of her story, revealing her thoughts and suffering, as revealed in the records of the trial that sentenced her to imprisonment.

Through the works on display and video content, the museum narratesthe places that served as the backdrop for the dramatic story of Marianna de Leyva, highlighting the connection between the museum collection and the surrounding area.

The project was developed in collaboration with Skylab Studios, with the support of the Municipal Historical Archives and the Civic Library.
