A long era of the young universe was without light: it is the so-called Dark Age. After the Big Bang was darkness, but this is not the Dark Age. 380,000 years after the beginning of everything there was a flash of light, still visible today: the background radiation. Then, as the Universe cooled, darkness returned and the long dark age began, ending with the birth of the first stars!
