Fromthe Primavera dei Vini in Rovescala to the Festa dell'Uva in San Colombano to the Franciacorta Summer Festival, 7 must-see destinations in Lombardy to discover with a glass of wine in hand.
Lombardy's oldest winery and wine spring.
One of the most interesting wine itineraries isOltrepò Pavese, a land of great and noble wines. Famous for the production of lively red wines, sparkling wines and Metodo Classico sparkling wines, it holds wineries rich in history. Immersed in the beauty of the surrounding landscape, the oldest winery in Lombardy can be visited in Calvignano.
Also worth a visit is Rovescala, also called the "capital of Bonarda," a small town rich in history and culture, where the Primavera dei Vini event is held every year in March.
Bubbles in Franciacorta
A stone's throw from Lake Iseo, be won over by the charm of the medieval villages, hills, vineyards and wineries of Franciacorta. One of Italy's areas with the highest production of "bubbly," perfect for aperitif time, but also ideal to accompany the entire meal. Carve out a weekend in June, the Franciacorta Summer Festival is waiting for you to discover and savor the various types of Franciacorta.
Suggestive landscapes and the Passito della Valtellina
A summer and winter tourist destination, in addition to the famous spas of Bormio, Valtellina also boasts a not inconsiderable food and wine culture. Valtellina is an area of Lombardy where great red wines are also produced that go well with the local cuisine, which is rich in specialties and tradition. Very interesting and evocative are the circuits among the terraced vineyards on the Rhaetian side of the Valley, from Morbegno to Tirano, which can be traveled by car, bicycle or on foot. The symbolic wine that represents Valtellina in the world is Sforzato (or Sfursat), the first Italian dry red raisin wine to be able to boast the DOCG.
The Valcalepio Wine and Food Trail.
In the province of Bergamo, Valcalepio offers excellent wines to enjoy with friends. Grown in the best locations in Bergamo's hillside and aged in oak barrels, Valcalepio is produced from the union of two important grape varieties: Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Thanks to the Strada del Vino e dei Sapori della Valcalepio, you can discover the food and wine excellence of this place through one of the proposed routes: The Heart of Valcalepio, which runs from the city of Bergamo, through Alzano to Chiuduno.
Goblets of Garda
From Groppello, to Lugana, to Garda Classico, remembering Tocai, Garda offers enchanting expanses of vineyards. If you love cycling, we recommend the area of San Martino della Battaglia: you can admire wonderful scenic views. A glass of Tocai, the smallest doc in this area is a must. To reconcile breathtaking views and a great glass of wine, we recommend the Valtenesi Wine Fair (May 31, June 1, 2 and 3, 2019), which will have as its theater the medieval historic center of Polpenazze, the inimitable "balcony" on Lake Garda.
A leap into the past with the Grape Festival
Just a few kilometers from the city of Milan, San Colombano al Lambro offers expanses of vineyards that give their name to the wine produced in this area: the San Colombano, which is mainly based on the Croatina, Barbera, Uva rara, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir grape varieties. Ideal for an end-of-summer outing is the Grape Festival, a leap into the past in the castle's medieval courtyard where it will be possible to taste the local DOCs and typical flavors of this area on the border between Milan, Lodi and Pavia.
Enchanting landscapes and Lambrusco at Palazzo
Rich in enchanting landscapes, between history and poetry, theOltrepò Mantovano is a great wine production area. It gives pleasant, full-bodied wines, but also light and fragrant ones that can be easily combined with the preparations of traditional cuisine. One example is Lambrusco Mantovano, which goes well with the area's local stuffed and pasta dishes, sure motivation for a trip out of town. Also worth marking in your agenda in April is the Lambrusco a Palazzo festival, which celebrates the king of sparkling reds and the art treasures of these lands each year by putting young people and wine culture at the center.
