Museum of the Via Spluga and the San Giacomo Valley in Campodolcino, Spluga Valley
The infopoint is located inside the valley museum overlooking the main square of the hamlet of Corti.
MUVIS is the museum dedicated to the history and culture of a valley crossed by the Via Spluga.
Entering Muvis is like taking a trip back in time: the exhibits tell of a life of sacrifices that tempered the people who lived tenaciously close to the mountain, in a relationship of respect and awe. Ample space is devoted to the Via Spluga, a very ancient route that crosses the Alps at its heart, the most direct route between Lombardy and the countries of Northern Europe.
Route dotted with stories of adventurous journeys and horse caravans, led by local mule trains. The Via Spluga still winds along daring and winding paths, often suspended over gorges that struck fear into the travelers of the time, such as the sublime stretches of the Cardinello and the Via Mala.
Inside the museum, the journeys made by wayfarers of the time are recounted: poets, musicians, artists, men of letters, diplomats, generals, pilgrims and merchants. Leonardo da Vinci, Erasmus of Rotterdam, Mozart, Fountains, Goethe, Nietzsche, Bakunin, Andersen, and Einstein are just some of the names of the people who have crossed the Spluga over the centuries, as did the men of 9,000 years ago who frequented our mountains ( at the MUVIS there is an exhibition dedicated to the archaeological excavations at Pian dei Cavalli, which brought to light the oldest signs of theMesolithic man in the center of the Alps) followed later by the Celts, the Romans and ordinary people until today.
