Valchiavenna

Valchiavenna, like Tirano another gateway to nearby Switzerland, offers a wide range of options, including culture, art, food and wine, sports and a wealth of nature.

Choices range from the town of Chiavenna, with its historic centre, ancient religious buildings and noble residences like Vertemate Palace, to the snows of Madesimo, with kilometres of perfectly groomed trails and excellent hotels and accommodations. Another must-see attraction is the Crotti, ancient natural cellars where you can sample traditional, high-quality products.

There are almost 80 Crotti scattered throughout the region, many of which have been converted into elegant, inviting restaurants. From the peaks to the valley bottom, Valchiavenna has a wealth to offer. Activities like trekking and bird watching let visitors enjoy the peaceful, stunning settings of Pian di Spagna Nature Reserve and Lake Novate Mezzola.
