Church of the Holy Family Institute in Cesano Boscone
Fr. Domenico Pogliani, a priest of the Diocese of Milan, was appointed parish priest of the village of Cesano Boscone in 1883. Animated by a deep sense of charity and compassion he expressed concern for the plight of orphans of the marginalized disabled.
It was customary for the mentality of the time to consider them a burden on society and to keep them hidden as a dishonorable part of the family unit. Healed himself from a serious illness in 1892, Pogliani made a vow to Our Lady: if he were healed, he would dedicate his life to works of charity.
After choosing to house some blind and disabled people in his own home, he founded the Ospizio Sacra Famiglia in Cesano Boscone on June 1, 1896, involving generous benefactors and young volunteers from the parish.
The institute was named "Hospice" to convey a sense of welcome and generosity.
He wanted to recreate the atmosphere of a large family.
Fr. Pogliani's 'work, guided by a special understanding of pain and dedication to the service of the poorest, has left a lasting legacy.
Today, the Holy Family Foundation continues, in its various locations, to provide care for people with disabilities, the elderly, and those in need of home care, rehabilitation and psychiatric support.
Don Pogliani's body is housed next to the altar of the church erected at the center of the institute he founded. His cause for beatification is currently underway.
Since 1981, a community of Franciscan friars has been serving for the spiritual animation of this place that still presents itself as a shrine of suffering and hope.
On the occasion of the "Jubilee 2025 - Pilgrims of Hope," the Church of the Holy Family Institute in Cesano Boscone has been designated as the Jubilee Church of the Diocese of Milan.
