Sant'Andrea Parish
A splendid example of Romanesque art, the Parish of Sant'Andrea in Iseo seems to date back to the early Christian era
In the historic centre of Iseo, a beautiful lakeside town, you can admire the picturesque parish of Sant'Andrea, where the church by the same name is found.
It is believed that the church of Sant'Andrea was founded in the 6th century by Bishop San Vigilio, where a Roman temple once stood.
Over the centuries the church was subjected to several expansions and renovations until it was rebuilt in the 12th century in Lombard style. Once again in the 19th century the interior was completely rebuilt in neoclassical style.
The centre of the Romanesque style façade bears a distinctive bell tower considered one of the most beautiful Romanesque church towers in the area. Inside, to the right of the portal, is the mausoleum of Giacomo Oldofredi, consisting of a Gothic tomb from the 14th century. The interior, divided into three neoclassical-style naves with arches supported by pillars, is decorated with ten side chapels with their relative altars. Even the high altar, built in marble, is neoclassical-style.
