Mezzegra
The village in Tremezzina with a magnificent view on Lake Como
Mezzegra, along with the villages of Tremezzo, Lenno, and Ossuccio, is part of the municipality of Tremezzina since 2014.
The village of Mezzegra is itself the union of six small hamlets and is located on the western shore of Lake Como, nestled along the slopes of Monte di Tremezzo.
Mezzegra and its surroundings are famous for the fabulous landscape that can be admired from the village narrow streets and from the churchyard of the beautiful parish church of Sant'Abbondio, which also enchants with its Baroque interior and the beautiful dome painted by Giulio Quaglio.
The historic centre of the hamlet of Bonzanigo fascinates with its particularly valuable historic buildings, Palazzo Brentano and Palazzo Rosati, memory of the success of local families in the trade of oil and citrus fruit with Northern Europe. A visit to the local "La Casa dei Presepi" (House of Nativity scenes) cannot be missed, a museum open year-round (free entrance) located on the Greenway del lago di Como, a scenic walk that runs through the village.
A curiosity about Mezzegra is that the village does not reach the lake; its territory stops just before the ancient Via Regina that belongs to Tremezzo.
