Natura e Delizie - Exhibition in Villa Carlotta
Via Regina, 2, Tremezzina (CO)
UNTIL SUNDAY 8 NOVEMBER 2020
In the nineteenth century, Villa Carlotta had an agricultural area destined for the cultivation of olive trees and vines, as well as a varied orchard that included apples, peaches, pears, tasty figs. The ancient traditions of cultivation, taste and the art of receiving – what would be called lifestyle today – are shown in the exhibition through a selection of works of art, maps, documents and numerous objects, in particular kitchen utensils, dishes, tablecloths and porcelain that transport us into the daily life of the time.
A section of the exhibition is dedicated to spontaneous herbs, their use in the food and medicinal field, as reported by popular culture: with them forgotten ingredients and recipes and a precious and partly lost knowledge of the Lake Como area .
This model of sustainability – ancient and at the same time very modern – is compared with that of our time: a selection of ten photographs, taken from the total 30 of the photographic reportage by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio entitled Hungry Planet (published by “Time” magazine) portrays family groups from as many countries around the world around their laid tables, to testify to their spending and food choices in any week of life at the time of globalization.
