Climb to the Tower of the Castle of Pavia
Have you ever seen Pavia from 47 meters above the ground? This is a unique opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking view of the city.
The guided tours, scheduled every Saturday from October 11 to November 29, will lead visitors to the top of the tower — once home to the ducal chancellery — to admire the stunning panorama of Pavia and to visit the exhibition “Pavia 1525: The Arts in the Renaissance and the Battle Tapestries.”
The Visconti Castle, commissioned by Galeazzo II Visconti in 1360 after his conquest of Pavia the previous year, was the magnificent residence of a refined court devoted to art and culture — one of the key centers of the Italian Renaissance.
Today, the Castle opens its doors to citizens and tourists thanks to guided tours organized by the Municipality of Pavia. These visits allow participants to explore the spaces that once witnessed the life and grandeur of the Visconti and Sforza courts between the 14th and 16th centuries.
The climb to the southeast tower takes visitors 47 meters high, offering a sweeping view of the city and its surroundings — a landscape that, some say, may resemble the one behind Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
Before the ascent, visitors will enjoy a tour of the exhibition “Pavia 1525: The Arts in the Renaissance and the Battle Tapestries,” an extraordinary journey through the places and history of the Battle of Pavia, told through magnificent tapestries displayed inside the Castle.
The guided tours, held every Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from October 11 to November 29, are part of the project “Visconti Between Chess and Sport in the Castle and Visconti Park,” funded by the “Cultural Olympics” program of the Lombardy Region.
The activities are organized in collaboration with Progetti, Dedalo, and Oltre Confine.
Meeting time and place: 1:45 p.m. at the exhibition ticket office.
The guided tours are free of charge; however, admission to the exhibition requires a ticket, which must be purchased in advance (also available online).
