The Lombardy 19th-Century Network is organizing a weekend of events and activities combining art and literature to provide a deeper understanding of a period of extraordinary creative fervor.

Saturday, September 26, 2026 – 3:30 p.m.
Fairytale Portraits! (Family Lab for families with children ages 3 to 11)
On display in the museum’s galleries are many works created in the 19th century depicting women at work, little girls, elegant ladies, ancient deities...  as well as just as many portraits of knights, kings, poets, young workers, and elderly painters... In our Family Lab, we’ll get to know them and then have fun inventing a fairy tale by choosing the protagonists of wonderful stories... of course, all with happy endings! 
Children must be accompanied by at least one adult.
Cost: free admission as part of the “Rete dell’800” weekend.

Sunday, September 27, 2026 – 3:30 p.m.
The Nineteenth Century Through a Feminine Lens: Works from the Civic Museums of Monza 
Guided tour of the exhibition exploring the works that nineteenth-century artists dedicated to the female world. An imaginary journey from Romanticism to late-19th-century Verismo, from the young woman in love immortalized by Hayez to Molteni’s sorrowful Nun of Monza, from the mid-century sculptures by Grandi and Borghi to the working women depicted by Spreafico and Borsa, tracing—through the eyes of women—the evolution of a society in constant flux.
Cost: free admission as part of the “Rete dell’800” weekend.
