Rural core of Tresivio
Hamlet of St. Anthony
S. Antonio is the highest hamlet of Tresivio, at more than 750 meters S.L.M. and, although located in one of the best vineyard areas of the middle Valtellina, it has always had to refer for this activity to a lower temporary location, Rodola at 500 meters S.L.M. where all the cellars are located.
There are two access roads to the nucleus: a carriage road coming from the center of Tresivio and another one along a mule track that always starts from the same place. The main activity carried out by the inhabitants of these buildings was animal husbandry, being able to rely on the mountain pasture of Rogneda along the summer months.
An activity related to animal husbandry was obviouslyagriculture, as evidenced by the various areas still cultivated today; in our days neither of these trades are carried out so assiduously anymore. As a result of this, one should not be surprised if going down the lane through the nucleus one sees balconies with trellises that are falling apart and if the stables now house piles of materials to mold. The general state of abandonment is widespread, and perhaps thanks to this the houses have kept their characteristics intact, because where intervention has taken place it is not uncommon to see balconies cast in reinforced concrete.
However, the housing types we find in St. Anthony are the traditional ones of rural buildings in our area: ground floor with stables, second floor dedicated to living quarters and attic space occupied by the barn, and, in the immediate vicinity of the house, space for manure storage.
