Piazzi Observatory
Located in the municipality of Ponte in Valtellina, loc. San Bernardo, the Piazzi Astronomical Observatory conducts scientific research and organizes guided tours.
As far as scientific research is concerned, the observatory collaborates with the Minor Planet Center (MPC) for the study of so-called "minor planets," comets and asteroids of greater or lesser size.
Guided tours, on the other hand, include a lecture on an astronomical theme followed by a visit to the dome with observations of the most interesting and visible objects at that time.
The Observatory is named after Giuseppe Piazzi, a native of Ponte in Valtellina and a great astronomy scholar who in 1803 and 1814 saw his study catalogs awarded by theAcadèmie des Sciences in Paris.
