The Trail of Expressions

The province of Como, famous not only for its spectacular lake views, also offers a vast network of nature walks in its mountains.

These include the outstanding Sentiero delle Espressioni, a trail through the Forest of the Intelvi Valley, through to peak of Mount Comana. Along the route, hikers will come across the surprising sculptures by the Associazione Maschera that add to the experience with their beauty.

The walk can be reached from the centre of Schignano, following the signs to Posa (840 m), where you can park. The route continues on foot to Alpe Nava. It is a charming route - a medium difficulty trek - and a chance to admire artworks created with bark and tree trunks by master woodcarvers. A unique place, where trunks express deep emotions and the wood comes to life thanks to the sculptures with human features.

Created in 2014 as a result of collaboration between ERSAF (Regional Board for Farming and Forestry), the Municipality of Schignano, and the MASCHERA association - well known for their Carnival masks and sculptures - the Sentiero delle Espressioni extends through the Valle Intelvi Regional Forest, bringing art, nature and tourism together in a unique experience.

Continue from Alpe Nava, the walk will take you to Alpe Comana, where there is a small lake and a farm tourism restaurant. Continuing your climb up to the top of Monte Comana (1210 m), you will come to a point offering breathtaking panoramas with views out over Lake Como.
