Lake Branchino
Lake Branchino, between Val Brembana and Val Seriana, is a little alpine gem, set in the landscape of the Bergamasque Alps. The lake itself sits in a natural valley between the Corno Branchino and Corna Piana peaks, surrounding by meadows, grassy slopes and rocky profiles that change colour with the daylight.
There are different routes up to the lake, all on foot. From Val Seriana it is possible to set out from Valcanale, a district of Ardesio, following the trail up to the Alpe Corte Refuge and continuing on past the mountain huts and grazing land. From Val Brembana, the route starts in Roncobello, continuing to Mezzeno and then along the trail up to the Branchino Pass. An alternative starting point is the Val Serina: from here the trail climbs up to the Capanna 2000 refuge and continues along the scenic Sentiero dei Fiori [Path of Flowers].
Whichever route you choose, your arrival at Lake Branchino has all the charm of a surprising discovery. After your walk, the lake comes into view among the meadows, in a quiet spot where you can stop and contemplate the mountains reflected in the surface.
Just a short way from the lake is the Rifugio Branchino, a base for those looking to enjoy a pause before returning or continuing on other itineraries in the area. From here the views offer some of the most recognisable profiles of the Bergamasque Alps, together with high-mountain pastures, limestone rocks, and trails that invite you to continue exploring.
In spring, summer and autumn, Lake Branchino is the ideal destination for those seeking high-altitude excursions with an essential appeal and a quiet, secluded setting that will surprise you.
