Bosco dei Bordighi Natural Reserve

Bosco dei Bordighi Natural Reserve develops near the town of Sondrio and covers an area of ​​about 50 hectares. On this territory, with altitudes that vary from 286 to 360 meters above sea level, very ancient or rare plant species grow and can be observed. Thanks to this particular context they have avoided extinction. In order to safeguard this natural heritage, this Reserve (now managed by Comunità Montana Valtellina di Sondrio) was established in 1989. The vegetation is characterized by a riparian forest, which hosts numerous species of insectivorous birds, including the robin, the nightingale and the blackcap. Thanks to the large quantity of decomposing wood that hosts larvae of coleopterans, in the wood there are numerous spotted woodpeckers and green woodpeckers, but there are also cuckoos and owls. Along the banks of the river live the white dancer, the small courier and the majestic grey heron.
