From the 16th century onward, silk became one of the mainstays of the Lombard economy, from the cultivation of mulberry trees to silkworm rearing, and on to spinning, twisting, and weaving. In Abbadia Lariana, the Setificio Monti still preserves the charm of that world today: a historic 19th-century factory where original machinery and spaces trace the journey of the silk thread.
