Giro d’Italia – Franciacorta and Lake Iseo
Thousands of people in Franciacorta and in the area of Lake Iseo can’t wait for Wednesday, 23th of May 2018 when the most important Italian bike race, the Giro d’Italia, will stop off in the town of Iseo, arriving from Riva del Garda.
The Giro d’Italia is the expression of a passion: a 155 km – long passion from Riva del Garda to Iseo
The Giro d’Italia should be a fist-hand experience: talking about it is not enough! Moving from Trentino – Alto Adige to Lombardy, from Lake Garda to Lake Iseo (Sebino), admiring some of the most fascinating areas surrounding Brescia. Proudly, Lake Iseo will welcome the 17th leg: from there on , the Giro d’Italia will move to the central regions of the country, leading on to its conclusion in Rome, on Sunday, 27th of May.
The leg will start in Riva del Garda, located in the far North of Lake Garda. The riders will cycle along Lake Ampola, Storo and Lake Idro towards Lodrino. Then they will go up the hills of Val Trompia towards Polaveno, where they will start descending towards Ome. They will pass through several towns of the Franciacorta area, e.g. Rodengo Saiano, Erbusco, before stopping in Iseo.
Through the vineyards: the Franciacorta Leg
The leg the performers are going to challenge through several towns of the Franciacorta area (Ome, Rodengo Saiano, Paderno Franciacorta, Bornato, Cazzago San Martino, Erbusco, Corte Franca, Provaglio d’Iseo, Monticelli Brusati, Passirano, Iseo) has been sponsored by the “Consorzio Franciacorta” and for this reason it has been called the “Franciacorta Stage”. It offers an extraordinary opportunity for both national and international tourists to discover this area and its famous wines.
Among its attractions, we recommend you to visit the natural reserve “Torbiere del Sebino, the monastery of S. Pietro il Lamosa in Provaglio d’Iseo and Monte Isola. Do not hesitate to taste “manzo all’olio” (beef in extra vergin olive oil), a traditional recipe of this area, and to give yourself a wine experience of the best wines Franciacorta offers.
