Teatro Binario 7

The building was designed by Arch. Aldo Putelli between 1933 and 1934 as the headquarters of the Casa del Balilla and Gioventù Italiana del Littorio (GIL) during the fascist era.

The architect created an architecturally modern building, an example of rationalist architecture, with the grafting of glass elements and equipped with spaces for leisure and recreation, including a theater, gymnasium, and a small swimming pool that has now disappeared.  The inauguration took place on October 6, 1934, and the building became the site of sports and cultural events until 1939.

After the war, the building passed to the Commissariato della Gioventù Italiana and then, in 1947, to the Camera del Lavoro. The large indoor hall became the Smeraldo Cinema, which debuted in early 1948 and remained in operation for nearly two decades.

After long years of neglect,the building was restored and inaugurated in 2005 as an Urban Center with functions to serve the citizenry: theater, exhibition spaces, conference rooms.

Thus was born the Binario 7 Theater, so named because of its proximity to the train station.
