Visit to Lurago d'Erba
SUNDAY 9 AUGUST 2020
We offer you an unprecedented guided tour of the historic village of Lurago d’Erba, the village of the five hills, famous all over the world for its wickerwork and “its” design products.
The itinerary will develop around the most important hill in the country, where high Brianza is dominated and where, even today, it is possible to relive a cross-section of our peasant culture, between sacred and profane, work and leisure of the past.
The visit will start from the Church of San Giovanni, located in a splendid dominant position: here it will be possible to learn stories and curiosities of the popular religious religiosity of Brianza, of which Lurago is still his faithful witness.
We will then climb the majestic bell tower, just like “modern sacristans”, not to ring the bells, but to admire the surrounding landscape from above and discover, from a privileged position, the wonderful hills of Brianza, from which it derives its name .
From the sacred we will then move towards the profane, to discover Villa Sormani, the dwelling which, for an optical effect created by its architecture, seems to be suspended in the void; we will also discover the historic peasant farms, where the culture of wicker and “know how” Brianteo was born.
We will cross corn fields, we will meet ancient courtyards and a suggestive washhouse, where time seems to have stopped waiting for someone to start it again …
The path winds for about 2 km. between gentle ascents and descents, climbing a very easy staircase of 180 steps you can reach the top of the bell tower.
