River Open Day in Pavia
Discover water sports on the Ticino river
On 19 and 20 September 2026, Pavia will host the River Open Day, two days dedicated to discovering water sports on the Ticino River and meeting the local sports associations that contribute to the city’s strong connection with its river.
The event offers visitors the opportunity to discover and try different sports alongside local sports associations. It is a chance to experience the Ticino from a different perspective, on the water and along its banks.
Which sports can you try on the Ticino?
During the two-day event, participants will be able to discover and try a variety of activities connected with the river and the local sporting tradition:
- Barcé, the traditional Pavia river boat
- Canoeing
- Rowing
- Dragon Boat
Activities will take place at the venues of the participating associations along the Ticino River in Pavia.
The Open Day is aimed both at people who want to try water sports for the first time and at those who would like to discover the local sports associations and the different ways of enjoying the river through outdoor activities.
When is the River Open Day in Pavia?
The River Open Day will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026, with activities scheduled in two time slots on both days.
Saturday 19 September
- 10:00 am–12:00 pm
- 3:00–6:00 pm
- 6:00–7:00 pm: tasting
Sunday 20 September
- 10:00 am–12:00 pm
- 3:00–6:00 pm
- 6:00–7:00 pm: tasting
Activities will take place in Pavia, along the Ticino River, at the venues of the participating sports associations.
Sport, the Ticino River and the local area
The event provides an opportunity to meet Pavia’s local sports associations and discover activities that are part of the city’s longstanding relationship with the Ticino River.
The river becomes a place to experience through sport, offering a different way to discover the natural environment and the landscape around Pavia.
A tasting for those who try at least two sports
The Open Day also includes a special activity for participants. Anyone who tries at least two sports and collects the relevant stamps from the participating associations will be able to take part in the tasting scheduled from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in Piazzale Ghinaglia.
It is a chance to round off the day by meeting other participants and discovering some of the local flavours and traditions of the Pavia area.
