Casa dell'Art Brut

Founded in 2019 in Mairano di Casteggio (Pavia), the Casa dell’Art Brut is the first place in Italy entirely dedicated to Art Brut. The association preserves the Fabio & Leo Cei Collection and promotes the study and appreciation of spontaneous and marginal artistic expressions, maintaining a constant dialogue with the academic and cultural world.

Casa dell’Art Brut was founded in 2019 as the first Italian space entirely devoted to Art Brut. The institution houses the extensive and diverse Fabio & Leo Cei Collection, studying its origins and authors while enhancing the artistic works that form its ever-growing core.

It is also the first documentation and research center dedicated to Art Brut and related artistic expressions—a hub for study and dialogue among languages, disciplines, and perspectives. With over 3,000 specialized volumes on psychiatry, art history, and philosophy, the Casa collaborates with universities, academies, and training centers.

The complex includes an exhibition area of about 400 square meters, a workshop room, an auditorium for meetings and performances, and a large park opens to the surrounding area, enhancing its role as a place of exchange and participation.

Casa dell’Art Brut is a non-profit cultural association established with the support of the Fondazione Bussolera Branca of Mairano di Casteggio, with which it shares a cultural hub that also includes the Casa della Musica and the Le Fracce Estate—a crossroads of arts and knowledge nestled in the hills of the Oltrepò Pavese.

From its very beginnings, the Casa has stood out for its international scope, being a member of the European Outsider Art Association and a partner of the Serbian Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art in Belgrade, the Osservatorio Outsider Art, the Accademia Albertina of Turin, and the Almo Collegio Borromeo of Pavia.
