Big Bench #223

The red and white Big Bench #223 on Alpe Chiaro, an idyllic mountain pasture near Giumello, just above Bellano, in the province of Lecco.

Installed on 19th June 2022, this is Chris Bangle's first bench in the Como area. It is 2.80m x 3.30m and offers panoramic views of great natural beauty. To get there by car, head to Giumello, a district of Casargo, where you will find a large paying car park.
From here, just follow the signs on foot to Rifugio Capanna Vittoria, on the slopes of Mount Muggio. Once past the refuge, you will come to a wood and the first directions to Big Bench #223, marked on red signs. The walk continues to the village of Alpe Chiaro and after about an hour’s walk from your starting point, you will see the Big Bench. The difference in altitude is minimal, making this itinerary suitable for anyone, as well as ideal for showing littles ones the natural treasures of Valsassina and Val Muggiasca.
The location of the Big Bench is perfect for showing you a memorable view out over Lake Como, Lake Lugano, Monte Rosa and Grigna, in a setting framed by the villages of Valsassina.
